How far is Efteling from the UK?

Efteling is located in Kaatsheuvel in the Netherlands. Depending on how you choose to travel, journey times vary, but you can reach Efteling in as little as 4–5 hours from the UK (for example, by driving via LeShuttle and onwards from Calais).


What are the main ways to travel to Efteling?

You can travel to Efteling by car via LeShuttle or ferry, fly into nearby airports in the Netherlands and continue by car or transfer, take the Eurostar to Rotterdam, or join one of our coach trips.


Travelling via LeShuttle


How long does the LeShuttle crossing take?

The crossing takes just 35 minutes from Folkestone to Calais.


How often do LeShuttle trains run?

LeShuttle departures run up to four times an hour in each direction during normal operating hours.


Do I need to arrive early for my crossing?

Yes, you should check in at least 30 minutes before departure, and no earlier than 2 hours before.


How long does the drive from Calais to Efteling take?

The drive from Calais to Efteling takes around 3 hours.


Are LPG vehicles allowed on LeShuttle?

No. Vehicles fitted with LPG or similar gas tanks are not permitted for safety reasons.


What is Flexiplus on LeShuttle and what does it include?

Flexiplus tickets allow you to travel at a time that suits you, with dedicated check-in lanes, priority boarding, and access to the Flexiplus lounge with complimentary snacks and drinks (for cars under 1.85m). It’s ideal if you want flexibility or expect your travel timings to change.


Driving and Breakdown Cover


Do I need European breakdown cover to drive to Efteling?

We strongly recommend it. Our European Breakdown cover can assist with mechanical or electrical issues, punctures, towing, replacement vehicles and even overnight accommodation if needed.


Is breakdown cover available for multi-trip or single trips?

Yes. We offer both single-trip policies (up to 180 days) and annual multi-trip cover (each trip up to 31 days, with options for longer durations).


Travelling by Ferry


Which ferry routes are best for Efteling?

You can sail overnight from Hull to Rotterdam, or take a shorter Dover to Calais crossing and drive from France. Hull to Rotterdam is especially relaxing, with cabins and lots of onboard entertainment.


How long is the Hull to Rotterdam ferry?

The sailing takes around 12 hours overnight.


How long is the drive from Rotterdam to Efteling?

Just around 1.5 hours.


Can I bring my pet on the ferry?

Yes, many ferries welcome pets, and some ships have secure onboard kennels.


Travelling by Plane


Which airports are closest to Efteling?

You can fly into Amsterdam Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport or Eindhoven Airport. Eindhoven is the closest, taking around 30–40 minutes by car. Rotterdam is just under an hour away, while Amsterdam Schiphol is around 1 hour and 15 minutes from Efteling. Each airport offers straightforward onward travel, whether you choose to hire a car or arrange a direct transfer.


Are car hire options available at the airport?

Yes, we can arrange car hire from various airports, offering a choice of car types and durations.


Travelling by Eurostar


Can I travel to Efteling by Eurostar?

Yes. Take the Eurostar from London St Pancras to Rotterdam. The journey takes just over 3 hours. From Rotterdam, Efteling is around a 1 to 1.5 hour drive.


Is onward travel from Rotterdam easy to arrange?

Absolutely. Car hire and taxi transfers are available, depending on how you’d like to continue your journey.


Travelling by Coach


Do you offer coach trips to Efteling?

Yes. Our 3-night coach breaks include return coach travel, Channel crossings, hotel accommodation with breakfast, and a 2-day visit to Efteling.


How long is the coach stay?

These trips typically run for 4 days / 3 nights.


Are meals included?

Breakfast is included each morning. Additional meals can be purchased during travel or at the hotel.


General Travel Questions


Is driving in the Netherlands easy?

Yes, road quality is excellent and signage is clear. The route to Efteling is straightforward whether coming from France or Rotterdam.


Are there luggage limits when travelling by car?

No. Both LeShuttle and ferry travel allow you to pack freely, which is ideal for families.


Can I bring bikes or mobility equipment?

Yes. Cars, bikes, caravans and mobility items are generally allowed, though some routes have restrictions for LPG-fitted vehicles.
